Thompson braves blizzard for Iowa State visit

Plymouth (Minn.) 2018 power forward prospect Race Thompson wasn't going to let a blizzard get in the way of attending Iowa State's Saturday afternoon match-up with top 10 Baylor. And he did not.

The 4-star Thompson and his family were on hand for the Cyclones' 72-69 win over the Bears and had a positive visit overall, according to his mother Stephanie.

"We had a nice time," Mrs. Thompson said. "It was a great game and the passion the Iowa State fans have is impressive. Hilton was rockin!"

Just getting to Ames from the Twin Cities was the biggest challenge of the visit for Thompson, who played a high school game Friday night and then had to brave a winter storm and hazardous driving conditions on Interstate 35 to get to Cyclone Country for the game.

The visit was the last for now, according to Mrs. Thompson, as Race is going to focus on the conclusion of the high school season and the pursuit of a state championship for Robbinsdale Armstrong High School. From there, he'll transition into AAU competition and Mrs. Thompson said she doesn't expect a decision to be made until after the AAU season concludes.

Iowa State coaches will visit Race Thompson at home in April, his mom said.

Thompson is the No. 87 prospect in the country in the Class of 2018, according to Rivals.com.
