Texas WR gets ISU offer, books visit

After offering a three-star Lone Star State wide receiver last week, Iowa State will host the Class of 2018 prospect this Saturday.

Burnet junior standout Sterling Galban, who hauled in 70 passes for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior, said he’s excited about touring the Big 12 program this weekend.

“I expect to see big things when I’m up there, as they’re one of the top schools in the country,” said Galban. “I’ve done a lot of research on them with my dad and see they have some of the best facilities in the country. I’m looking forward to seeing that and the campus. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of vibe there is in Ames.”

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound slot receiver is being recruited by wide receiver coach Bryan Gasser, as well as running back coach Lou Ayeni.

“They’re letting me know that they can’t wait to get me up here and I’m going to love everything about Iowa State,” Galban said. “I can’t wait to see how Coach Gasser works with the receivers during spring practice – how they work, what drills they do and how it all runs. I want to see what type of group of receivers they have coming into the season.”

Galban, who also has offers from Ivy League programs Dartmouth, Cornell and Columbia to go along with interest from West Virginia and Tulsa, said he likes how I-State would use him if he ends up signing with the program next February.

“They’re letting me know that I’m a dynamic playmaker that can come in early and play, change the program around,” he said. “They like me as a receiver who can make plays, create separation and make space in the slot. They’d like to move me around a little bit.

“I feel like I run great routes and I take great pride in that. I have good hands and feel like my releases off the line are second-to-none. I feel confident enough to where nobody in the country can jam me off the line.”

ISU offered Galban last Tuesday after recruiting him for almost a year. Ayeni started the process after evaluating the receiver during spring practice in 2016.

Picking up his first Power-5 offer from a school in a conference he’s very familiar with was a dream come true, says Galban.

“I feel really excited about the opportunity,” he said. “It looks like a school where I can see myself playing big-time football. I think I’d be a good fit in the Big 12, because they spread the ball around. I grew up watching the Big 12 and have known about Iowa State for a while.”
