In-stater Nagel commits to Iowa St.

Just a few days after receiving a scholarship offer from Iowa State, Manchester (Iowa) West Delaware tight end John Nagel has committed to the Cyclones.

The 2017 prospect had previous been committed to Northern Iowa. His other FBS offers included Army, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois. ISU offered him on Sunday.

Nagel is a 6-foot-6, 230-pound Rivals.com two-star prospect. So far this season, he has seven receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns as West Delaware is off to a 3-0 start. He also has 14.5 tackles from his defensive end spot on the other side of the ball. He caught 22 passes for 453 yards and four touchdowns as a junior.

“It’s been leading up to this and it finally happened. I was just blown away and happy as can be. It was a big one for me and left me speechless," Nagel said about receiving the offer on Sunday. ISU initially began recruiting Nagel as a sophomore, he said, prior to the coaching change in Ames.

Nagel expects to report to Iowa State next year as a tight end, but he's open to a change in that plan if it develops.

“When I’ve talked to them they’ve always said tight end,” said Nagel. “I’m just happy to have an offer to go play football at Iowa State. Wherever they put me is where they put me.”
