Although Iowa State's coaching staff had been familiar with a Michigan prospect in the Class in the 2019 for a while, the junior's transition to playing defense this past fall paid off with a recent offer.

Defensive back Ahmad Gardner, who competes at the same Detroit Martin Luther King program that produced Jaeveyon Morton in the 2018 class, said his teammate helped get him in the door with the Cyclones.

Gardner transitioned to more of a two-way threat as a junior, even after getting offered from Toledo for his work catching passes. If he ends up in Ames with Morton, he would be as a cornerback.

The next step is for Gardner to make it to Ames for an unofficial, which he says he could be doing twice in the coming months.

For more on Gardner's recruitment and how the Cyclones stack up at this stage of the process, check out a more-detailed story on the ISU Confidential message board.
