Decision time near for key in-stater

With a decision perhaps on tap for next week, the Iowa State coaching staff has made its final impressions on an in-state offensive lineman that's been number one on its board for a while.

Creston junior Trevor Downing took another unofficial visit to Ames in late April, and the 6-foot-4, 270-pound big man also had offensive coordinator and line coach Tom Manning at his school yesterday as he appears set to make a commitment next week.

ISU coaches have visited Downing twice during the spring evaluation period, with Manning making the trip to Creston yesterday.

The state’s second-ranked recruit for the Class of 2018, behind only West Des Moines Dowling Catholic’s John Waggoner, Downing also appears to have a set of parents that like what ISU brings to the table. Downing wants to pursue a career in Agricultural Business.

Downing is set to make two more unofficial visits to other programs before making a commitment.

In addition to ISU, Downing also has offers from Iowa, Kansas State, Minnesota and Missouri.

For more on Downing's recruitment and how the Cyclones stack up at this stage of the process, check out a more-detailed story on the ISU Confidential message board.
