Following February visit, 2021 Oklahoma LB hears more from ISU
A top-15 2021 prospect from Oklahoma visited Iowa State in February and said his level of contact with the program has remained strong in the months that have followed.
The Cyclones were fortunate to get Edmond Santa Fe junior linebacker Collin Oliver on campus prior to the NCAA’s extended dead period, hosting him for a Junior Day on February 1st. That could bode well for the program remaining in the mix of a recruit with other Power-5 offers.
“I’m getting texts and such from some coaches just catching up with me during this time,” said Oliver. “I’m hearing a lot from Coach Veidt. We talk about how stuff is during this time and of course football.”
“When I went on the visit, it was great and it went well with everyone. Their facilities stood out to me the most. It was really cool seeing those for myself. I love the way it’s set up and how convenient it is in terms of proximity to the living area.”
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Oliver is a three-star recruit with a 5.6 Rivals rating. He released a top-eight earlier this month that included the Cyclones.
In addition to his I-State offer, his entire list of P5 offers includes Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU, Texas Tech and Utah.
During his trip to Ames, Oliver said he enjoyed learning more about the Cyclones’ unique 3-3-5 defense and how he would be utilized in it.
“We talked about how I fit into their scheme on defense and what they’d do to me at that linebacker position,” he said. “They’re mainly targeting me for an inside position, with blitz capabilities from inside and out. I like how versatile the defense is and how I can move a lot from the linebacker position.”
Oliver said he would like to make a commitment prior to the start of his senior season.
