2017 4-star guard Lindell Wigginton commits to I-State

Iowa State's quality 2017 basketball recruiting class got even better Friday morning as four-star guard Lindell Wigginton announced his verbal commitment to the Cyclones.

Wigginton is a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder that can play either guard position. He attends Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, but is originally from Canada. Wigginton is the No. 40 prospect in the country in the Class of '17 according to Rivals.com.

Iowa State, Arizona State and Oregon were Wigginton's three finalists. He officially visited ISU on the weekend of September 23 and made official visit trips to Oregon (9/9) and Arizona State (10/8) as well.

Rivals.com national basketball recruiting analyst said Wigginton will offer the Cyclones a lot in the way of ability and versatility when he joins the I-State program next season.

"Wigginton is a high scoring combo guard who is physically tough and plays an aggressive style," Bossi said. "He's compact and strong, has a very good handle and is comfortable attacking the paint or scoring from deep with the jumper.

"What I really like about Wigginton is that he is versatile enough to play multiple spots in the backcourt," added Bossi. "I prefer him as a scorer to a setup man, but he can run your offense if needed. I think he defends pretty well and and I think he's a competitor."

Bossi said that Wigginton has shared the ball and the spotlight at Oak Hill out of necessity and will not have any problem with doing the same at the next level.

"He's played the last two years with three other four-star guards in Matt Coleman (undecided), Ty-Shon Alexander (Creighton) and Devontae Shuler (Ole Miss) and he's been able to be highly productive without hogging the ball," Bossi explained. "I think the type of experience he's gained because of that backcourt setup is going to be very valuable for him when he arrives on campus in Ames."
