Former Iowa State running back Stevie Hicks was found in extremely critical condition under an Omaha, Neb., interstate bridge on Friday and later died of his injuries, according to Omaha police.
Hicks played at Iowa State from 2002 to 2006. After taking a redshirt season, he played as a freshman in 2003 and rushed for over 1,000 yards in his sophomore season in 2004. Hicks was the starting running back for two winning ISU teams and two Cyclone bowl teams. He signed with Iowa State as a four-star prospect out of Omaha Creighton Prep High School in 2002.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine an official cause of death. Hicks was found around 8:30 a.m. on Friday along Interstate 480 in downtown Omaha, under an overpass in the intersection that connects I-480 to the North Freeway.
