QB Mitchell commits to Cyclones

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco junior quarterback Re-Al Mitchell announced his verbal commitment to Iowa State on Monday.

The 6-foot-0, 185-pound Mitchell had named the Cyclones as his leader in late March at the same time he said he planned to go public with a decision on May 1. ISU held onto that position as Mitchell worked his way through several unofficial visits to other top schools. UConn, Rutgers, Illinois, UCF and Hawaii were other top players for the 2018 QB. He also claimed Power 5 offers from the likes of Arizona, Northwestern, South Carolina and Utah. Mitchell had around 15 total offers.

Mitchell, the No. 55 overall prospect in the state of California, took an unofficial visit to Iowa State in March. He passed for over 3,000 yards as a junior at St. John Bosco and also rushed for over 1,100 yards and accounted for 47 touchdowns.
