ISU commit bounces back from summer injury

Nearly back to 100 percent after an offseason knee surgery, Iowa State's prized in-state commitment for the Class of 2018 is ready to start his senior season.

Creston three-star offensive lineman Trevor Downing, who chose the Cyclones this summer over offers from Iowa, Kansas State, Minnesota and Missouri, went down nearly two months ago while camping with his teammates.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Downing said he’ll be ready to play in Creston’s opener next Friday at Boone. Downing will be one of the Panthers’ leaders and said the team has high aspirations for this fall.

As one of the Cyclones’ two in-state commitments for 2018, Downing said he’s trying to hit all of the team’s home games this fall. He has yet to set an official visit, but says his preference is for it to be after the season.

For more on Downing's upcoming season and what he's hearing from the Cyclones these days, check out a more-detailed story on the ISU Confidential message board.
