Iowa State Swimming and Diving Annual Awards
The Iowa State swimming and diving team held its annual awards banquet Sunday at the Gateway Center, marking the conclusion of the 2001-02 season.
Head coach Duane Sorenson handed out seven team awards, including the Most Valuable Swimmer award to sophomore Petra Plaminkova (Prague, Czech Republic) and the team's Most Valuable Diver award to sophomore diver Linda Wagner (Westminster, Colo.).
Junior Kristen Vanek (Peoria, Ill.) received the award for Most Improved Swimmer, while redshirt freshman Megan Flaws (Ames) was named the Cyclones' Most Improved Diver. The most improved awards are given to the upperclassmen who have improved the most in both practices and competition.
Senior Becca Meyer (Shakopee, Minn.) was honored with the Cyclone Award which is presented annually to the athlete that the coaching staff feels characterizes the ideal ISU student-athlete.
Junior Rena Kelinson (Rock Island, Ill.) received the Cyclone Relay Swimmer award for consistently swimming outstanding split-times or lead-off legs as a member of a Cyclone relay team.
Sophomore Lara Skoog (Lake Oswego, Ore.) was presented with the Kerry O'Brien Award given annually to the woman that best demonstrates a personal
commitment to competing at a national championship level.
