Tough soph OL nets Iowa St. offer

A good way for a sophomore to stand out on an experienced team loaded with talent is to play an aggressive brand of football.

That is what worked for West Des Moines (Iowa) Dowling Catholic offensive lineman Zach Ross, who was offered a scholarship by Iowa State during a weekend unofficial visit to Ames. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Ross and his Maroon teammates won Iowa's Class 4A state championship last year.

Ross said his physical style of play is what got the attention of the ISU coaching staff as it reviewed fall film of Iowa's best high school team, leading an offer in April of his sophomore year - early enough to come as a surprise to him.

So what does Ross have for summer football camp plans, and what other schools besides Iowa State are on his radar? Click through for more details on the ISU Confidential members-only message board.
