Sutton announces on Christmas day

Sometimes, you already know what you are getting for Christmas before the big day arrives.
That was the case for the Iowa State football staff and the commitment of McKeesport (Pa.) linebacker Tymar Sutton. The 6-foot-0, 215-pound linebacker told Cyclone coaches he was committed to ISU at the conclusion of his official visit to Ames back on the weekend of Dec. 11-13.

But he wanted to wait for a special occasion to announce it and Christmas morning seemed like as good a choice as any.
"The weekend I came there I said I was committed, but I told them I didn't want to say anything yet and I would tell them when I was going to do it," Sutton explained.
Sutton told CycloneReport.com on the 13th that he was talking the decision over with his mom, who thought he should take at least one more visit for comparison's sake. That never took place and Sutton stayed with his silent commitment to I-State for about two weeks before making it public.
According to Sutton, the opportunity to be part of a building process was the most appealing thing for him about Iowa State.
"The rebuilding part was biggest thing," said Sutton. "I've always had to fight for everything so I was looking for some place to grind it out and know that we started from the bottom and made the difference."
Sutton said the ISU coaches have told him he could play any of the three linebacker spots on the Cyclone defense, and there's even been some talk of a special offensive package to use Sutton's talents on that side of the ball as well.
Based on scholarship offers, Sutton is one of the more underrated prospects in the entire high school Class of 2016. The Rivals.com two-star prospect claimed Power 5 offers from Iowa State, Boston College, Illinois, Maryland, Syracuse and Wisconsin, in addition to many non-P5 offers as well.
