Super soph camps with 'Clones

Few Central Iowa Metro League (CIML) players become starters and featured performers in the freshman year. But that’s exactly what Runnells (Iowa) Southeast Polk running back Gavin Williams did in 2016.

And college coaches took notice. Iowa State recently extended Williams his first verbal scholarship offer and the 6-foot-0, 195-pounder reciprocated by participating in the Cyclones’ most recent Saturday Night Lights camp in Ames.

Williams piled up 805 yards on the ground and averaging 5.3 yards per carry with seven touchdowns as a high school rookie. He also proved himself to be a very capable receiver out of the backfield with 22 catches for 242 yards as Southeast Polk went 5-5 on the season.

Williams is a long way from a decision in the summer before his sophomore year.
