P5 Opportunity Too Good to Pass Up for Pulvermacher

Getting the chance to play football at the highest level, while also moving a little bit closer to his Wisconsin home, was too much to pass up for a Class of 2018 prospect who switched his commitment from North Dakota State to the Cyclones on Friday afternoon.

Hartland Arrowhead defender Chandler Pulvermacher, who took a game-day visit to Ames for the Oklahoma State game, said the offer he received from Iowa State three weeks ago was too good to ignore.

“Obviously it’s a Power-5 school and they’re going to have amazing facilities, which I saw,” said Pulvermacher, who will sign with the Cyclones out of the same high school program that produced junior fullback Sam Seonbuchner.

“It’s a great program that’s on the rise with Coach (Matt) Campbell. Even though I loved NDSU and had been up there several times, but this is a Power-5 school and it’s a chance to play in the Big 12. It’s three hours closer to home and easier for my family to get down there to see me play. They can also watch me on TV every weekend if they want to. It’s a better opportunity for me and one I couldn’t pass up.”

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Pulvermacher said his entire recruiting process with ISU lasted only about four weeks.

“I had been committed to North Dakota State since before my senior season,” he said. “I committed late in the summer. The only other team that had been in contact with me throughout that time was Iowa. They wanted me to send in film of my first couple games of my senior year. They stayed in light contact and then eventually cut contact with me and moved on. It was just NDSU from there.

“It was about a month ago, Iowa State hit me up on Twitter. A couple of the coaches started talking to me and said they got ahold of my senior film and were impressed by it. They wanted me to come down to the last home game against Oklahoma State. My mom, dad and little brother went down there. I got to see all the sports facilities and went to the game. We went home after that and about a week later I got a call from Coach Campbell offering me a scholarship.”

The fact the Cyclones broke out in their second campaign under Campbell was just icing on the cake for Pulvermacher, who moved on from a perennial FCS powerhouse in North Dakota State.

“They had a great season and had some close losses that could have gone either way,” he said. “It could have been even better than 7-5. They’re on the rise. It’s a great school and great program. I want to come play football for Coach Campbell.”

Although he is the third linebacker for the Cyclones in 2018, Pulvermacher will take on a different role than fellow high schoolers Michael Rose and Gerry Vaughn.

“They like my size as a linebacker in college and love how I’ve played safety in high school, so I have experience moving around,” he said. “They want to put me as a SAM, or a hybrid type who can play in coverage and move around.”

Pulvermacher is the 18th known commitment for ISU in the Class of 2018.
