Two of Iowa State's five football verbal commitments for 2017 so far are offensive linemen, including Ames (Iowa) three-star standout Colin Newell.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Newell pledged to join the I-State program while on campus to watch a spring practice session and it was the next step in realizing a long time goal for him: the play for his favorite college program.

The Cyclones leveraged Newell's loyalty and their status as his first Power 5 offer to gain the springtime commitment from one of the state's best offensive linemen.
