More with McGee on his ISU decision
For Arkansas City (Kan.) Cowley County Community College guard Tyrus McGee, the decision to commit to Iowa State was not an easy one. But with Cyclone head coach Fred Hoiberg taking the lead on recruiting McGee, it became apparent to the future ISU guard that Ames, Iowa, was the place for him.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound McGee committed to Hoiberg Tuesday afternoon in a face-to-face meeting at the junior college.

"It was kind of mutual, both of us wanted to do it this way," McGee said. "I asked him to come down and he wanted to talk to my coach again, so that was how we did it. I decided Monday what I wanted to do and talked to Coach DeSalme about it and we kind of went from there."
McGee notified the coaches of other schools about his decision on Monday. He had officially visited Iowa State, Wichita State and Creighton on three straight September weekends and also had offers from TCU and Colorado. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound McGee said he is prepping for a combo role at Iowa State.
"I will be playing the one and the two," said McGee. "A hybrid they called it. Coach Hoiberg was a guard and really knows a lot about guard play. I'm going to do whatever they need me to do."
The Stringtown, Oklahoma, native averaged over 16 points, five rebounds and two assists per game last winter for Cowley County. He said the atmosphere in Ames was definitely a selling point for him with a small town background.
"Ames isn't a small town, it's a much bigger town really," McGee said. "But it felt like a small town. Everybody seems to know everybody and it's just really nice up there. The overall atmosphere was something I really liked."
McGee said he plays to major in sports administration at Iowa State. He'll have two seasons of eligibility to play with the Cyclones. McGee said he will sign with ISU in November and is on schedule to graduate from Cowley County in May, 2011.
