JC DL Nelson Still Looks Forward to Joining ISU

Followers of Iowa State recruiting should be familiar with a name that’s on the coaching staff’s radar for the 2018, as he was part of head coach Matt Campbell’s first signing class in Ames.

Iowa Western defensive lineman Jerrion Nelson, who was a sign-and-place for the Cyclones this past February, has gotten on track in Council Bluffs and is still being recruited by Iowa State to eventually join the program in 2018.

Coming out of Columbia Battle High School, Nelson at one time had P5 offers from the likes of ISU, Iowa, Purdue and Syracuse prior to joining the Cyclones as a sign-and-place in February. He was a three-star recruit by Rivals at the time.

The 6-foot-2, 265-pound Nelson recorded 45 tackles, 8.5 tackles-for-loss and four sacks as a freshman with the Reivers. He also made the change from being an end in high school to playing inside in 2016.

For more on Nelson’s recruitment and how ISU stacks up at this stage of the process, check out a more-detailed story on the ISU Confidential message board.
