The road from Waukee to Iowa State went through Lincoln, Nebraska, for power forward Michael Jacobson. But he did eventually find his way to the Cyclone basketball program.
Jacobson is heading into his transfer year at ISU after playing two seasons at Nebraska. He’ll sit out the 2017-18 season and then have two years of eligibility to play for I-State.
The 6-foot-9, 240-pound Jacobson played in 65 games over two seasons at Nebraska, starting 56 times for the Huskers. He averaged six points per game as a sophomore after being just under five points per contest as a freshman. Jacobson averaged 6.2 rebounds per game in his second season after grabbing 4.7 per as a rookie.
For now, the Waukee native is taking summer classes and participating in the YMCA Capital City League. And Jacobson is plotting out how he plans to utilize his first basketball season in over a decade that does not include playing in competitive games.
Jacobson is already chipping away at academics, taking two summer classes right now in Ames. And he’s participating in all team activities, getting accustomed to the Iowa State way of doing things as one of several newcomers connecting with the program.
