Iowa State offers Fla. LB Brooks

Getting a first-hand glimpse of a Florida prep linebacker with NFL bloodlines during last Sunday's Sound Mind Sound Body camp was enough to convince Iowa State to make an offer.

Tampa Gaither rising senior DeCalon Brooks, the son of NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Brooks, said he impressed the five ISU staff members that were on hand working the camp on Sunday.

Linebackers coach Tyson Veidt, who worked Sunday's camp, and head coach Matt Campbell have been in touch with the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Brooks frequently since making the offer.

With his ISU recruitment still in the early stages, Brooks, who has Power-5 offers from Florida State and Illinois, said he hasn’t discussed if he’ll be taking an unofficial visit to Ames but says he would like to.

For more on Brooks' recruitment and how ISU stacks up at this stage of the process, check out a more-detailed story on the ISU Confidential message board.
