Iowa St. takes aim at Vegas kicker

Iowa State has only offered one placekicker thus far in the Class of 2017, and has made it a priority to sign the recruit regarded by some as the top-ranked at his position.

Bishop Gorman (Nev.) standout junior Brandon Ruiz said he had been in touch with the current Cyclone staff last year when the group was at Toledo, and that interest carried over to this year, thanks to the work of special teams quality control coach Joe Houston.

After ISU became his first offer back in April, Ruiz has had ample time to do his research on the program.

Ruiz also has Power-5 offers from Pac-12 programs Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon State.

For more on Ruiz's recruitment and how ISU stacks up at this stage of the process, check out a more-detailed story on the ISU Confidential message board.
