I-State gets 3-star CB commitment

The first fireworks of the July 4th holiday weekend - from an Iowa State football perspective anyway - came in the form of a verbal commitment from a three-star defensive back.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood 2017 standout Quran Hafiz announced his commitment on twitter Friday afternoon after talking with Cyclone coaches on Thursday night. He chose I-State over a long list of other scholarship offers that also included his two other finalists: South Florida and Virginia Tech.

Hafiz, a 6-foot-0, 170-pounder, also had offers from Power 5 schools Boston College, Duke, Indiana, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Oregon State, Purdue and Syracuse to go with a slew of offers from Group of 5 schools, too.

Hafiz unofficially visited Iowa State on the last weekend of June.

He had previously indicated plans to make a commitment announcement last month, but delayed his decision and announcement until now.

Hafiz is Iowa State's 17th known verbal commitment in its 2017 class. The Cyclones are currently ranked No. 27 in the Rivals.com team recruiting rankings for 2017.
