Hometown OL hits Iowa St. practice

A Class of 2017 commit from the state of Iowa was on campus for his first preseason practice on Friday and came away impressed with how the new coaching staff is running things.

Rising senior Colin Newell, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound three-star prospect from Ames High School, said he studied the offensive line in particular during his most recent stop. In addition to the football aspect, Newell said it was nice to get up to speed with the coaches after a busy summer.

Newell said he will remain at left tackle for Ames this fall. He plans to attend every Iowa State home game and is planning an official visit for after the season.
