Greiner enjoys his time at I-State

An in-state linebacker from a perennial Class 2A power was on campus for Iowa State's scrimmage on Sunday and liked what he saw on the field and in the meeting room.

Williamsburg rising senior Derek Greiner, who put himself on the Cyclones' radar with a strong camp showing earlier this summer, made the trip back to Ames for preseason camp. The 6-foot-0, 205-pound linebacker said he knows where he currently rates on the Cyclones' 2017 recruiting board.

Although Greiner has yet to collect an offer, he said he's hearing frequently from Iowa State, Iowa Northern Illinois, Western Illinois, Illinois State, South Dakota and UNI.
