Emerging DL excels at ISU camp

Even though he played just sparingly as a high school sophomore, the question of whether or not Mosai Newsom has the ability to play Division I football appears to have already been answered.

The 2019 defensive line prospect from Waverly (Iowa) Waverly-Shell Rock picked up his first FBS offer last week at Minnesota. He’s also been offered by FCS South Dakota and he’s receiving solid interest from both Iowa State and Iowa, with some level of interest from Oregon as well.

Newsom continues to develop physically and weighed in at nearly 245 pounds at Iowa State’s big man camp on Sunday. That is 20 pounds more than he was previously listed. And at 6-4 ¾ (measured at ISU), it won’t be long until he’s a legitimate 6-foot-5 as well.

Newsom has been around athletics his entire life. His dad Marcus is a long-time track coach and administrator at Division III Wartburg College in Waverly.
