Davis connection in play for Miami DE

Iowa State and the Miami (Fla.) Southridge High School were synonymous with football greatness two decades ago when Troy and Darren Davis put up huge numbers in the backfield for Dan McCarney's teams. That pipeline is still alive and well in 2017, as the Cyclones are recruiting a three-star defensive end from the Spartan program.

Standout Class of 2018 defender Randy Charlton, who recently picked up an offer from I-State, said he’s heard plenty about the program from both Darren Davis and his son Darren Jr. who is a close friend.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Charlton, who is a three-star recruit with a Rivals rating of 5.7, currently has Power-5 offers from the likes of ISU, Illinois, Mississippi State and Nebraska.

Thanks to the fit and level of interest the Cyclones have shown, Charlton said they are pretty high on his list to this point. DL coach Eli Rasheed has been ISU's lead recruiter with Charlton.

For more on Charlton's recruitment and how the Cyclones up at this stage of the process, check out a more-detailed story on the ISU Confidential message board.
