Cyclones making final push for QB

One official visit remains for an Arizona prep quarterback that has seen his recruiting stock soar this winter, and Iowa State sent five coaches in-home last night for a final sales pitch.

Gilbert Perry three-star senior Brock Purdy heads to Texas A&M this weekend and plans to announce a decision next Wednesday, so the meeting with ISU staffers Tom Manning, Jim Hofher, Bryan Gasser, Alex Golesh and Taylor Mouser was a big one in the program’s efforts to land the quarterback.

Purdy said he likes what he heard from the five coaches, and in his continued conversations with head coach Matt Campbell.

The 6-foot-1, 197-pound quarterback is coming off a breakout 2017 campaign in the desert, as he passed for 4,400 yards and 57 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,017 yards and 10 scores as a high school senior. He has a 5.5 Rivals rating which may be surprising given the level of interest he’s garnered since the end of the season.
