Coaches eye Florida prospect as third WR in 2021 class

Perhaps the top 2021 wide receiver left on Iowa State’s board is a tall target from the state of Florida who could be nearing a release of his finalists.

Plant City rising senior Aramoni Rhone said he’s strengthened his relationship with Cyclone coaches over the spring.

“Everything has been good,” said Rhone. “We talk about family stuff and what’s going on in the world. We talk mostly every day and they Facetime me quite a bit. It feels like that’s my family right there. We talk about what’s going to be going on when I come up. How everything is going to be with my family if I happen to come up there. Would they have to worry about me after I go to the next level.”

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Rhone, who has transferred from Orlando Jones to Plane City for his senior season, is a three-star prospect with a 5.6 Rivals rating and also has a Power-5 offer from Arizona State to go along with a host of others in the G5 ranks.

With Tristan Michaud and Jaylin Noel already pledged for the 2021 class, I-State appears destined to sign one more pass catcher. Coaches believe Rhone is a perfect fit for an offense that likes bigger targets in the passing game.

“Right now, they have a couple guys committed there,” Rhone said. “They really like what I bring to the table on my film and with my stats. I’m unstoppable going up for the ball. They feel like I’m their next Randy Moss coming in. I’ve looked at Hakeem Butler’s film from a couple years ago when he was at Iowa State and we actually play just alike.”

Unable to visit during an extended dead period, Rhone and I-State’s staff have remained close via virtual means.

“The other day, I was on (a Zoom call) with Coach Nate (Scheelhaase) and most of the other guys on their offensive staff,” Rhone said. “It was a nice visit and we talked about everything. I also talked to Coach Tyson (Veidt) and he’s with my mom about everything. That really gave me peace of mind about Iowa State.”

A visit for the 2020 season is likely, says the Sunshine Star receiver.

“Coach Nate told my mom when all this stuff settles down that I could come up or we could set up a game day visit on one of my bye weeks and I could have a wonderful time,” Rhone said.
