Cinci junior chalks up ISU offer

A high school junior with NFL and Power-5 bloodlines recently picked up an offer from Iowa State, but there's more to the story. The standout's father also has a connection to a current member of the Cyclones' coaching staff.

Cincinnati Indian Hill’s Jalen Thornton, whose father John played alongside the Cyclones’ assistant director of scouting Mark Thurston at West Virginia in the mid-90s, said he got his third Power-5 offer last week.

Getting another Power-5 offer to go with the ones he currently has from Kentucky and West Virginia was huge, says Thornton, who played the first game of his junior season this past Friday. He also has G5 offers from Cincinnati, Marshall and Toledo.

Thornton said there’s a chance he may make it to Ames this fall for a game, but it’s more likely that he won’t make it to Ames until after the season.

For more on Thornton's recruitment and how the Cyclones stack up at this stage of the process, check out a more-detailed story on the ISU Confidential message board.
