Cali JUCO DT commits to Cyclones

Merced (Calif.) College defensive tackle Kamilo Tongamoa has verbally committed to Iowa State while on a weekend official visit to Ames.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Tongamoa is a 2017 Rivals.com three-star prospect who also claimed offers from Power 5 programs such as Arizona State, Colorado, Louisville and Missouri in addition to a number of Group of 5 offers.

Cyclone defensive line coach Eli Rasheed is the lead recruiter for Tongamoa, one of two California junior college defensive linemen visiting ISU this weekend, along with El Camino's Ray Lima.

Tongamoa was a 2016 verbal commit to Colorado State at one time, but ended up needing more time in JUCO and reclassified to 2017.

Tongamoa is the 18th known verbal commitment in Iowa State's 2017 recruiting class to date. We'll have Commitment 360 coverage of Tongamoa's decision over the next several days on CycloneReport.com, examining the commitment in depth from all the angles.
