Cyclones Add Transfer Nader

The Iowa State men's basketball team picked up an experienced player to its squad with the addition of Northern Illinois transfer Abdel Nader, a 6-7, 225-pound wing who averaged 13.1 points and 5.6 rebounds as a sophomore for the Huskies last season.

A native of Skokie, Ill., Nader will sit out next season and have two years of eligibility for the Cyclones beginning in 2014-15. He signed his financial aid agreement to attend Iowa State.

"Abdel is a proven scorer who has the experience to help us on both ends of the court," Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg said. "Having a wing who can score and defend is very valuable to a team, especially in the Big 12. We feel Abdel can fit in right away and help us. We are extremely happy to have him join our team."

Nader started 18 of the 19 games he played in for the Huskies in 2012-13, reaching double figures 13 times. He had two double-doubles and posted a career-high-tying 26 points vs. Kent State.

Nader earned MAC All-Freshman Team honors in his rookie season in 2011-12, averaging 10.4 points in 29 starts. Nader grabbed 4.2 rebounds per game and scored in double figures 17 times, including three games with 20 or more points. He poured in 26 points vs. Ball State.

Prior to his stint at NIU, Nader was one of the top players in the Chicago area in 2011, earning First Team All-State honors from the Chicago Tribune and garnering Chicago All-Area honors from ESPN. As a senior, Nader averaged 23.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists to lead Niles North to a 24-6 record and their first sectional championship and Central Suburban League titles in the school's 47-year history.
