Easy win for ISU
Iowa State was supposed to thrash TCU Saturday in Ames. And it did.
The Cyclones rolled to an 87-53 victory over the hapless Horned Frogs, improving ISU to 7-5 in Big 12 play and 17-8 overall. Iowa State had beaten TCU by 13 points in Fort Worth back in January and anything less than a 20-point win in the Hilton Coliseum rematch would have been a disappointing performance for State. But it did not disappoint.
It's back on the road for the third time in four games Wednesday night as Iowa State visits Baylor.
After losing two straight on the road, coming home to play the Big 12's worst team was just what ISU needed.
The Cyclones jumped out to a 22-10 lead on Frogs, who have won just one conference game - an inexplicable victory over Kansas. TCU scored nine straight points to get within three at 22-19 and again at 24-21, but Iowa State finished the first half on a 12-0 run of its own for a comfortable 36-21 lead at halftime.
TCU briefly got its deficit into single digits again early in the second half as Iowa State led, 40-31, with 16:34 left to play. But the Cyclones scored eight straight points to open things up comfortably again at 48-31 on a Will Clyburn three-pointer with 14:47 to go.
The Frogs got back within 13 with just under nine minutes to play, but it was all ISU from there. A Chris Babb three made it 64-46 at the 7:52 mark and Clyburn converted a three-point play with 6:12 on the clock to make it 69-48. Two free throws by Korie Lucious made it 78-48 with under four to play. Iowa State's 34-point margin of victory was its biggest of the game as Kerwin Okoro nailed a three-pointer with 1:30 to play.
Georges Niang scored 19 points to lead Iowa State. Clyburn had 16, Tyrus McGee 15 and Babb 11. Korie Lucious had six assists and no turnovers for ISU.
