Cyclones post blowout win

Iowa State posted the sixth-largest victory in school history Monday night, routing outmanned Alabama A&M, 98-40, at Hilton Coliseum. The laugher improved ISU to 2-0 on the season. The Cyclones host Campbell on Sunday evening.

Five Cyclones scored in double figures, led by Tyrus McGee's 18 points. Freshman Georges Niang scored 17, Melvin Ejim had 16, Will Clyburn 15 and Korie Lucious 10. Ejim also had 10 rebounds to give him a double-double performance in the lopsided victory. Naz Long had seven assists for ISU with Lucious chipping in five and Clyburn adding four.

After spotting Alabama A&M a 2-0 lead, Iowa State scored seven straight points and never trailed again. The Cyclones had the lead in double digits at the under 12:00 media timeout, 18-7, and extended their advantage to 33-10 by the under 4:00 timeout. It was 41-14 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same with Iowa State building its lead to 66-27 at the under 12:00 timeout and 76-30 at the under 8:00 timeout. The final margin - 58 points - was the biggest lead of the night for ISU on two occasions (also 92-34).

Iowa State has two previous 58-point wins in its basketball record book. The Cyclones defeated Bethune Cookman 115-57 during the 1992-93 season and crushed Augustana (Ill.) 113-55 in the 1984-85 season. The biggest win in ISU school history came on Dec. 1, 1992, a 70-point triumph over SUNY-Buffalo, 106-36.
