Smith hoping for A&M offer

Fresh off a strong performance at the U.S. Army Combine in San Antonio, Spring Westfield defensive lineman Anthony Smith made the quick trip over to Texas A&M Saturday morning to take part in the Aggies' junior day event.

The only junior defensive lineman to crack either the 13-5A first or second teams was impressed by what he saw.

"It was real good; I liked it," the 6 foot, 285-lb. Smith said. "We got to meet the coaches, tour the campus and eat lunch. It was a pretty good time."

Smith found out during the visit that the Aggies had been paying close attention to him and had come to some conclusions about his play.

"I got to talk to a few of the coaches, and they told me they were very impressed with me," he said. "They said they were going to be in touch, that I was up next to offer on their list."

Smith said he doesn't think he'll have to wait very long to find out if the Aggies were serious about their discussion of an offer.

"One of the coaches said he'll be at my school next week for sure," he said.

After his trip to College Station, it appears the members of the A&M staff weren't the only ones impressed with what they saw on Saturday.

"They were really nice, and everything you need is in one place," he said. "It felt like more of a family environment there."

Smith, who hasn't received his first offer yet, is hearing from the likes of Texas, TCU, LSU and Nebraska.
