2012 hoops prospect visits Iowa

DeJuan Marrero was riding along with a friend who was being dropped off a prep school and along the way he also took the time to stop by the University of Iowa for a brief visit on Thursday evening. While the visit was brief, the 2012 forward was impressed by what he saw in his time in Iowa City.

"It was really almost like a half visit, but I got a chance to see what the campus was like a little bit, took a look at the arena, and I got to spend a little time with one of the assistant coaches. There is a lot of construction going on around the arena right now and they talked to me about the new practice facility."

The visit was in the evening and only assistant coach Andrew Francis was around the basketball offices at the time, but the 6-foot-5 forward from Gary, IN says he is open to looking at Iowa.

"They have been recruiting me, but they haven't offered yet," he said. "My mind is wide open as far as recruiting, so I would say that Iowa has a shot."

Thus far the 2012 prospect has piled up plenty of offers, including many Big Ten schools. Indiana, Purdue, and Illinois have offered from the Big Ten and Cincinnati has also offered a scholarship to's #85 prospect in the Class of 2012.

Marrero says he is planning on making a trip next week to Marquette and that he has talked to Iowa assistant coach Sherman Dillard about making a return trip to Iowa City this fall.
