Day One at the River City Showdown

Last year was the inauguration of the event known as the River City Showdown, an event that takes place in the Bluff City, and showcases off local top talent.

With coaches from most of the major Mid-South universities in attendance (Memphis, Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, etc), the event started back up on July 8, 2010.

The Showdown will be held at three different venues over a four-day period culminating on Sunday with the championship game in four age classifications (17-under, 16-under, 14-under, and 13-under).

Representatives of TigerSportsReport.com watched several games on Thursday. The best teams that we saw--by far--were the Memphis Magic Elite, who routed the Arkansas Warriors, and Team Alabama, who simply had too much talent and overwhelmed Team M33M.

Both games were never tight. The Magic started out on a 10-0 run to begin their game, and they never relinquished the lead. Team Alabama, with a far superior roster, never let M33M get into a groove until the final few minutes, when Alabama had their second unit in.

Both games showcased talent that has been written about, and also offered a few players who came out of nowhere.
