December 20, 2008 Iowa State will introduce Paul Rhoads as its next football head coach on Saturday evening. The official media advisory has gone out to alert media to a 5:00 p.m. press conference at ISU to introduce Rhoads as the next head coach.Rhoads served as an assistant coach at Iowa State from 1995 to 1999, overseeing the defensive backfield for the Cyclones. He moved on to Pittsburgh with a promotion to defensive coordinator and worked for the Panthers from 2000 to 2007. In his first year at Pitt, Rhoads and the Panthers lost to Iowa State, 37-29, in the Insight.com Bowl. Rhoads was the defensive coordinator at Auburn in 2008 but found himself out of work with the resignation of Tommy Tuberville. Ironically, it was former Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik who was hired to replace Tuberville at Auburn, despite his dismal 5-19 record and lack of head coaching acumen in two seasons at ISU. |
