August 26, 2012Some of Iowa State's current 2013 football recruiting verbal commitments have yet to play their first game this season while others have already been in action. Here's a recap of how commits and their teams have been faring so far or when they see their first action of 2012.
Emmanuel Bibbs, TE, Yuma (Ariz.) Arizona Western
Arizona Western's first game is Saturday in Pueblo, Colorado, against Iowa Falls (Iowa) Ellsworth College in the Mile High Shootout.
Tyler Brown, RB, Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson
Lake Gibson's first game is Friday at cross town opponent George Jenkins.
Brandon Harris, WR, Cedar Hill (Tex.)
Cedar Hill's first game is Friday at Denton (Tex.) Guyer.
Trevor Hodge, QB, Perris (Cal.) Citrus Hill
Hodge was ejected in the first quarter of Citrus Hill's 40-15 win at Riverside (Cal.) Poly on Friday after a scuffle with an opposing player. He'll miss the Hawks' game on Saturday vs. San Bernadino (Cal.) Arroyo Valley. Hodge rushed for 82 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown run, before leaving the game.
Jacob Homa, OL, Brookfield (WIsc.) Central
Brookfield Central opened the season with a 19-18 victory at Mukwonago on Thursday night. The Lancers won the game on a touchdown pass with 14 seconds left to play. Brookfield had a 100-yard rusher and a 100-yard receiver in the win. Central's next game is Friday at West Allis (Wisc.) Hale.
Vincent Johnson, OL, Sacramento (Cal.) Christian Brothers
Christian Brothers opened the season with a 23-20 win over West Sacramento (Cal.) River City. The Falcons host Fairfield (Cal.) Vanden on Saturday.
Joel Lanning, QB, Ankeny (Iowa)
Ankeny opened the season on August 17 with a 49-14 win at Marshalltown (Iowa). Lanning completed 11-of-25 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He also rushed for 36 yards on 10 attempts. Ankeny was idle this past weekend and plays host to Des Moines (Iowa) Lincoln on Friday.
Alex Leslie, TE, New Braunfels (Tex.)
New Braunfels' first game is Friday at Boerne (Tex.) Boerne-Champion.
Nick Severs, OL, Macomb (Ill.)
Macomb opened the season with a 27-12 win at Monmouth (Ill.) Monmouth-Roseville on Friday night. The Bombers trailed 12-0 and then scored 27 unanswered points. Macomb hosts Carthage (Ill.) Illini West on Friday.
Kamari Syrie, DB, Hurst (Tex.) L.D. Bell
Bell faced Mansfield (Tex.) in a scrimmage this past Friday. The Raiders play at Fort Worth (Tex.) North Crowley this Friday.
Nigel Tribune, DB, Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines
Raines opens its season Friday against cross town opponent Providence.
J.D. Waggoner, DE, Dallas (Tex.) Jesuit
Jesuit played Wylie (Tex.) in a scrimmage on Friday night. The Rangers have a huge road trip coming up this week as they play in Dublin, Ireland, against Chicago (Ill.) Loyola.
Justin Webster, ATH, Houston (Tex.) Northland Christian
Northland Christian plays its first game on Friday at Houston Christian.
D.A. Williams, DB, St. Augustine (Fla.)
St. Augustine's first game is Friday night at Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian.
Aaron Wimberly, RB, Council Bluffs (Iowa) Iowa Western
Wimberly had a 37-yard touchdown run on his first carry of the season as Iowa Western routed APU Cole College, 77-0, Saturday in Denver, Colorado. Wimberly had just four carries and one reception and only played in the first quarter of the blowout win. This Saturday, IWCC plays New Mexico Military in Pueblo, Colorado, in the Mile High Shootout.
