Knott & Klein make watch list

Both of Iowa State's standout senior linebackers - Jake Knott and A.J. Klein - are among 42 players selected for the initial Lott IMPACT Award watch list for 2012.

The award is presented annually to the college football Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community, and Tenacity. An individual's character and off-the-field excellence are considered along with their play on the field.

The only other schools with two players on the list are Wisconsin, Texas, LSU and Florida State. Iowa State returns the best linebacker duo in the nation in Klein, the 2011 Big 12 Conference co-Defensive Player of the Year and Knott, a 2011 first-team All-Big 12 honoree.

Regional bid comes for men's golfers

For the first time since 1999, Iowa State has made it to the men's golf postseason. ISU learned Monday that it been selected to play in the NCAA regional at Bowling Green, Ky., May 17-19. The top five teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships.

Iowa State second-year head coach Andrew Tank listed a regional bid as one the team's primary goals at the beginning of the season. He is thrilled to see the 13-year drought come to an end.

Another former Cyclone lands at LSU

Calvin Godfrey, who played one season of men's basketball at Iowa State, will play for LSU next year.

Godfrey will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after playing last season at Howard College in Texas. He averaged 5.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a true freshman at Iowa State in the 2010-11 season.

It's the second time in recent years that a former ISU player has ended up at LSU. Utah native Justin Hamilton fled the Cyclone program and transferred to Baton Rouge to be "closer to home."
