Former Iowa AD may be new Commish

Stanford athletic director Bob Bowlsby has emerged as the leading candidate to become the new commissioner of the Big 12. Bowlsby is also a one-time AD at both Iowa and Northern Iowa.

The Big 12 is looking for a new permanent commissioner to succeed Chuck Neinas, who has served on an interim basis since the league parted company with Dan Beebe in 2011. Conference meetings concluded Wednesday in Phoenix. An official announcement regarding a new commissioner could come as soon as Friday.

Uthoff visiting Iowa State today (and Friday)

The much anticipated Iowa State visit for Wisconsin transfer Jarrod Uthoff begins today. The 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward told CycloneReport.com that he plans to spend two days in Ames checking out ISU and Cyclone basketball again. Iowa State offered Uthoff a scholarship out of Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School as well.

Uthoff has already visited Creighton and said on Wednesday that additional trips to Marquette and Florida remain possibilities.

Future Cyclones in charity game

Two Iowa State basketball players of the future will participate in this weekend's Mary Kline Classic cancer fund raiser basketball game in New Jersey.

Georges Niang and Kerwin Okoro will take part in the game, organized by teenage recruiting guru Alex Kline in honor of his mother, who died of cancer. The game features around 50 of the top high school players from the east coast.
