May 1, 2012 Paul Clark CycloneReport.com Publisher Talk about it in ISU Confidential 2.0 Fans speak for "mascot" trophy design Iowa State and Iowa football fans don't agree on much, but it seems they have the same taste in trophies. The "mascot football concept" was overwhelmingly favored by fans of both schools in on-line voting for a new Cy-Hawk football trophy. Roughly 80 percent of the vote went for the trophy design featuring likenesses of Cy the Cardinal and Herky the Hawk. Fans have been voting for the past two weeks. An interim trophy was used last fall after public ridicule and rejection forced sponsor Iowa Corn Promotion Board to scrap its intended design to replace the original Cy-Hawk trophy that was used from 1977 to 2010. 3rd straight NCAA bid for golfers Iowa State is headed to the women's golf post-season for a third straight year. The 37th-ranked Cyclones were selected to play in the NCAA West Regional at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo., May 10-12. The top eight teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. ISU tied for fourth at the Big 12 Championships on Sunday, equaling its best finish in the Big 12 meet.
